On the evening of April 9, US President Donald Trump unexpectedly decided to postpone the imposition of tariffs for all countries for 90 days. For China, the tariff rate increased to 125%.
On the social network TruthSocial, President Trump said that due to China's lack of respect for the world market, he decided to raise the US import tariff on this country to 125%, effective immediately.
"Based on the disrespect that China has shown to the world market, I hereby increase the US Tariff on China to 125%, effective immediately" - Mr. Trump declared.

According to Mr. Trump, hopefully at some point in the near future, China will realize that stealing from the United States and other countries is no longer sustainable and unacceptable.
With more than 75 countries calling the US representative agencies including the Department of Commerce, the Department of the Treasury, and the Trade Representative to negotiate a solution to their problems related to trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-currency tariffs, and these countries have not retaliated against the US in any form, President Trump has decided to postpone the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on these countries for 90 days and the basic tariff of 10% on other US trading partners.
According to Mr. Trump's statement, after the 90-day period, the reciprocal tariff on the economies that have negotiated with the US will be reduced to 10%. Countries that are currently subject to a basic tariff, such as Canada and Mexico at 25%, will also have their tariffs reduced to 10%, effective immediately.
Under the new tariff policy announced by Mr. Trump, the US will impose a 10% tariff on most imported goods from April 5, while the tariff on imported cars will be 25% from April 3. About 60 countries with a large trade surplus with the US will be subject to higher tariffs, up to 50% from April 9.
According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, President Donald Trump's decision to lift tariffs worldwide on all economies except China is a reward for not retaliating amid the ongoing trade war.
Meanwhile, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said he was not aware of President Donald Trump's 90-day tariff suspension order until it was announced.
