US imposes 104% tax on Chinese goods from April 9

The White House said on April 8 that President Donald Trump will impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods, which will take effect from April 9 (US time).

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods from April 9 if China does not withdraw its 34% retaliatory tariff on the US. Thus, with the current 20% tariff and 34% reciprocal tariff, China will have to pay a total of 104% of import tariffs from the US. Immediately after President Trump's announcement, the Chinese government emphasized that it will continue with its retaliatory tariff measures and fight to the end with US tariffs.

Speaking to reporters on April 8, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that China made a mistake in retaliating against the US and will be subject to a 104% tariff from April 9: “ I just spoke to President Donald Trump and he believes that China wants and needs to make a deal with the US. China retaliating against the US is a mistake. When the US is attacked, President Trump will fight back. That is why the 104% tariff on China will take effect at midnight tonight. President Trump believes that China wants to make a deal but they don't know how to start. President Trump wants to say that if China approaches to make a deal, President Trump will be very polite but he will do what is best for the American people”

Meanwhile, on the social network TruthSocial, President Donald Trump emphasized that he and his team are waiting for a call from China and this will happen.
